Home zone description

From the Wainui Rd Bridge the zone boundary travels along the western side of the Waimata River up to and including 299 Riverside Road.

The boundary then travels in a north-westerly direction around the outskirts of Gisborne City including the following roads, including those roads with direct access to Valley Road and Shelley Road.

The home zone boundary then travels in a northerly direction to1813 Waimata Valley Road including Mander Road, Utting Road, Bailie Road, Monck Road and Marshall Road.

It then travels overland in a westerly direction including Ngakoroa Road and Newman Road, crossing Matawai Rd (SH2) to McMillan Road.

The boundary travels south including Humphreys Road and Lavenham Road up to the intersection with Tangihanga Road, until it reaches Waipaoa River.

The home zone boundary then follows the Waipaoa River to the coast. The boundary then travels north along the coast to the Wainui Rd Bridge.

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Out of zone enrolments

Each year the board will determine a number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority. These priorities are set by the Ministry of Education.

First Priority

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.

Second Priority

Must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.

Third Priority

Must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.

Fourth Priority

Must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

Fifth Priority

Must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school, or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority

Must be given to all other applicants.

Places must be allocated in priority order until each category is reached. If there are more applications than places available, selection will be made by ballot.
